Dayton 1VNX3 Eletric HeaterFeb 09, 2010
By Spinatwachtel Perfect for small rooms. I purchased this heater for our dressing room (approx. 14x10) which gets quite cold in winter. This unit keeps the room very comfortable at low to medium setting, even when the temperature outside is in the single digits. My main selection criteria were quiet operation, small footprint and low wattage. This heater meets all three. Being a light sleeper, I'm particularly pleased about the noiseless operation. The only sound it makes is an almost inaudible click of the thermostat (whereas the ceramic space heater we had before woke me up every time the blower came on). We've had it for two months and so far it has performed flawlessly. I would definitely recommend this heater.

400 Watt Oil Heater Will melt your rubber shoes!Dec 18, 2009
By Mark L. Bradford
"drmbradford"
Pros: Lightweight, quiet, 400 watts, small...very thin. Can be put places like under a sink or in a closet to keep pipes from freezing. So small, it can go places where other radiant or fan/coil/ceramic heaters can't go.
CONS: Does not produce enough heat.....unit gets very hot to the touch..so hot can melt shoes if you touch the rubber of the shoe to the ide of theunit. Lack of fins means lack of convection....which means it is not efficient at transferring heat to it's surroundings. Do you want to pay electricity to heat metal? Or to heat the room around it?
Final Comments: We bought it to put underneath a tiny desk, but since my wife can't touch it with her feet, we have to try to use it elsewhere. But it will not work for the underdesk unit we hoped it would be. If you have a big desk, or L-=shaped desk big enough NOT to touch your feet to it, might work for you. Or might go under your kitchen sink or other places to keep pipes warm

Nice productNov 24, 2009

We've been using this space heater for a while. It does not dry the air as bad as other space heaters that blow hot air into the room. It is not overheating, so it's less danger of fire. It's good for a rather smaller room, or to be used in addition to the regular house heating system when needed. Easy to transport (from room to room if needed) since is not heavy at all.

Plastic feet and plastic shell problemsNov 13, 2011
By Quality_Evaluator The plastic feet were the wrong type of plastic and became soft, almost tipping over the unit. Grainger Industrial Supply is the main distributor for Dayton heaters. I contacted them and they provided new plastic feet for no charge. The new feet are the correct type and do not soften with the heat. One year later, however, the plastic shell covering the controls on the right-side of the heater has cracked, possibly due to thermal expansion. While I like the size and wattage of this heater, I am afraid that the materials used in the manufacturer of this heater were possibly not to specs. I plan to discontinue use of this heater.

Terrible, almost no heat actually generatedMay 22, 2011
By I.S. This heater produced pretty much no heat, even when standing right next to it. It also made pretty loud noises which were disturbing in a bedroom. Waste of money.
